So there I was, June 2004- working a job that I had no interest in and really no idea of where my life was going. I always enjoyed traveling but had only ever done the "1-week all-inclusive" or the road trip to see a concert. I really wanted to do something new and different from anything I had ever done before. So when I saw a poster advertising trips to Thailand I thought wow that would be so amazing! No one I knew had ever been out to Asia so the idea of being the first person to experience this new place really appealed to me. After looking into it in more detail I decided to join the August group. Unbelievable! That is how I would describe it. The parties, beaches, new friends and most of all the food blew my mind away. After that trip I knew I was hooked on traveling to Asia. That was 6 years ago and I have been back every summer since. I have also been lucky enough to have traveled to Bali, India, Cambodia, Laos, the Philippines and the next destination is Sri Lanka this June. Coming to Asia was one of the best decisions I have ever made and it has definitely had a huge impact on my life. Traveling to areas of the world where everything about the countries is different from our day to day lives at home really opens your eyes to how interesting and diverse this world really is.
And a little bit of background info on me… after high school I decided to take the “one” year off to work and try to figure out what to be when I grow up. Well that one year turned into four and it wasn’t until a four month trip to Thailand and Bali that I realized in order for me to be happy, I needed to be doing something that I loved and for me that something is sports and teaching. I enrolled in the Bachelor of Education program at Mount Royal College in Calgary majoring in Physical Education. After putting in my time at MRC I transferred to the University of Alberta where I am currently finishing off my degree.
My main interests are sharing some good laughs while watching Americas Funniest Home Videos, playing any type of sport and of course traveling and experiencing the world.
Deciding to join a group trip is the best way to experience traveling. Being with people who share the same interests as you can make you appreciate even more of what a country has to offer. If I could give you one piece of advice before you decide whether or not to sign up for a trip it would be this: You only live once! Make the best of it while you can. I guarantee you will not be disappointed.
I’m looking forward to some intense games of Beersby on the beach followed by many relaxing hammock sessions!
See you on the beach!
