I will never forget the first time I got off the plane in Bangkok back in 2003. I was struck by a huge array of crazy new sensations that I had never experienced before in my life. New smells, intense heat, a strange & foreign language, a city of 13 million people, Buddhism, people driving on the left side of the road, a monarchy, a culture different from what I had been living in all my whole life up until that very point…all these amazing things coming at me from every direction and before I arrived at the my guesthouse!! It was overwhelming yet exciting at the same time and I couldn’t wait to see what the next six months was going to bring me! It was probably the first time in my life that I felt truly free. Free of responsibility from work, school and all those other things ‘tying us down’ that we ALL are faced with on a daily basis back home. I was excited for what was to come and had no idea my life & mindset would change so much over the course of my time in SE Asia. For the next six months I travelled Laos, Cambodia and throughout the entire country of Thailand both on my own and helping run free & easy trips with Curt. Not a day passed without the thought of how I was going to get back there sooner than later. I was addicted. Fortunately for me Curtis had a solution to my addiction and a position in free & easy for me!
That was in 2003 and here we are 5 years later. My role in the organization has grown over the last few years. I don’t get to jump on a plane and head over to SE Asia for months like I used to but I am still spoiled in the fact that I have spent loads of time there over the last few years. I am also presented in the awesome opportunity in helping so many people get ready for their 40 day trip with us where hopefully they will experience some of what I have during each of my trips to Thailand and the Philippines. I now married to a girl who I met on a free & easy trip, have two great kids, and an amazing job that brings me more enjoyment than I could ask for. I hope that you are able to join us on a trip this 2009 and that, like my life, yours is also impacted by the epic experience you will surely have with us on one of our trips.
