Halong Bay
Halong Bay is one of those 'must-see' places in Vietnam. In fact, there are lobby groups trying to get it approved as one of the official "New Wonders of the World"! And wonderful it is, with karst peaks rising from the grey-green ocean, reaching skyward in beautiful jungle covered pinnacles. Vietnam closely associates itself to the dragon, and the Vietnamese legend holds it that the karst peaks of Halong Bay are the humps of the spine belonging to the long, serpentine dragon that was sent by the gods to protect over Vietnam from invasion by China.
Although Halong Bay is a major tourist spot in Vietnam, we at Free & Easy have made sure to custom tailor our trip there to avoid the hustle and bustle of the crowds so we can enjoy such epic scenery at our own pace, on our own private wooden "junk" boat for a night out on Halong Bay that you will never forget! Our second night we will spend on the pristine beach on Cat Ba Island, sleeping in quaint bungalows 20 steps from the beach. Plenty of hammock-laden gazebos abound for those of you who don't want to recline without having to deal with all that sand...what a hard life!
