Catanduanes (Cat-an-du-an-es)

Arriving at the Catanduanes airport you immediately know you’ve entered into a new Philippines. The locals are excited at the idea of tourism, but with only a few foreigners arriving each week, it is still their rural island lifestyle that they depend on. Our arrival certainly has the locals stopping and heads turning, but with continual smiles and ‘hellos!’ you will certainly feel welcomed. The group will pick up supplies in the main town before venturing even deeper into this wonderfully lush and gorgeous tropical island.

Facing straight out to the open Pacific Ocean, the rugged east coast with its dramatic cliffs and sparkling blue sea, is a picture perfect backdrop. Tucked in amongst all this beauty, the beach your group calls home for 4 days will seem too good to be true. Two sisters own the only two resorts on the beach, and they treat you as though you are guests at their home. You’ll be spoiled with their delicious cooking, and the beach is a perfect spot for stringing up a hammock between two palm trees. With all worries set aside, the only thing left to do is enjoy paradise.

Swimming, snorkeling, sand castles, collecting sea shells, and sipping San Miguel beer would likely be enough to keep anyone on this beach more than satisfied, but did we mention that you could also go surfing?! ‘Majestics’ surf break is considered one of the best in the Philippines, hosting yearly surf contests, and is only a short paddle out from the beach. With no real surf shops, or surf guides, this break isn’t practical for beginners (that comes at our full week in Siargao island), but is great for anyone with surf experience.
