Surf, sand, sun and sea will be the major elements for our adventure through Nicaragua. The trip will visit 6-7 destinations in the 20-days - 5 of which have beautiful beaches at close reach. On the Pacific Coast, we'll enjoy the surf, the parties, and laidback vibe of San Juan del Sur, and also travel to another surf beach further up the coast. The adventure will set us out on Lake Nicaragua to visit the twin volcanic island of Ometepe - a place of legends and majestic scenery everywhere you look. We'll spend a few days in the colonial city of Leon to catch some more authentic Nicaraguan culture, and go volcano boarding nearby!
We could have easily visited many other awesome destinations on the Pacific side, but instead the 20-day trip will travel by small plane across Nicaragua to the Caribbean coast, and the tropical paradises of Big Corn and Little Corn Islands. It will feel like you've traveled to another country entirely with the mix of Spanish and Jamaican-like cultures, and the unspoiled beach that you'll have by stepping right off your patio!
We are certain that every location achieves that standard of epicness that we strive for in all Free & Easy trips. Central America has so many awesome destinations to offer, but it is Nicaragua that always catches backpackers off guard and makes them not want to leave. Nicaragua has also just entered on to the travel scene, so the cost of living is cheap, yet still so comfortable and enjoyable. Meals cost $3-$4, surfboard rentals cost $10/day, a cold beer is only $1....And the waves and beaches won't be near as packed as other places in the world! (Surf is great for beginners all the way up to pros.)

Though we'll be traveling in a group and maximizing our 20-days
together, we'll still be close with the backpacker community and you'll
get a chance to meet other travelers from all over the world, as well
as practice your Spanish with the friendly Nicaraguans. Nicaragauans
have faced many hard times in the past 50 years, but they still have a
zest for living life, and are happy to host the larger numbers of
foreigners coming to enjoy their country of volcanoes, lakes and ocean.
Nicaragua is a stable country now, and is actually considered to be
the safest of all Central American countries.
