Santorini
Sometimes the earth gives you something that your brain has trouble comprehending because its just so magnificent and beautiful...your brain shuts down and your heart just feels like it is going to burst. The sunset at Santorini is one of those gifts..and it happens every day!!
This island used to be a volcano until it erupted in the largest tectonic event in the history of human knowledge. Eventually most of the volcano sunk into the sea leaving only the eastern rim as half moon crescent - the east coast gently sloping into the sea and the west coast entirely made up of dramatic cliffs dotted with little towns clinging to the side. Every night in Santorini is a night to hit up one of these towns, meander the alleys and shops and then find yourself a cafe or a perch to just sit and watch as the sun goes down.
Another bonus of all this volcanic activity are the beaches! Black volcanic sand beaches to be exact. There are several all around the island and we will be staying right next to the longest one - Perissa beach. This beach has enough restaurants, beach bars and sun worshipping to keep any beach bum happy for days on end.
