Adventure Travel in Greece & Turkey

From the epic crater island of Santorini to the wild parties of Ios to the bizarre landscape of Cappadocia to the fascinating histories of Athens and Istanbul to the laid back lifestyle of all of the beaches we visit in Greece and Turkey - this trip has it all!

The ORIGINAL F&E Adventure!

Free & Easy first began as a company leading trips to the Greek Islands back in 2000.  The wonders of traveling Greece, and living an easy-going lifestyle in the Mediterranean are what originally inspired the concept for this company - islands off the beaten path, inexpensive, friendly locals, fascinating history, a vibrant and young backpacker scene, delicious cuisine, an unhurried travel pace and absolutely gorgeous island scenery with a perfect climate (sunny, hot and no rain) - Greece has it all and it made us want to share the dream with everyone!  That successful concept has taken us all around SE Asia and Central America.  Now we've finally returned to Greece and for 2012, Free & Easy is getting back to the islands, and putting together the original Free & Easy Mediterranean experience, except this time in Greece AND TURKEY…and for 40 days!!

So why Turkey?

First off, it is right next to Greece therefore offers similar Mediterranean sun, beach, food and fun.  It also offers an entirely different culture from Western Europe and Greece, which provides that feeling of really taking a step further into something truly exotic.  It is equally as beautiful, friendly and lively as Greece, AND Turkey has it’s own currency the Lira, which means it is significantly cheaper!

Turkey is said to be in both Europe and Asia because it straddles the border between them.  Nowhere illustrates this better than Istanbul which is the longest continuously inhabited city in the world (more than 3000 years!).  It is an awe-inspiring city - every new corner you turn offers something cool.  East meets West in a very European take on what is essentially a Middle Eastern culture.  The best thing is that the Turks are so friendly.  They have a sort of playful approach to life and nobody seems too rushed so neither are we!

This Turkish spirit is found throughout the country.  At restaurants and shops, Turks are always willing to go above and beyond to show you the utmost hospitality….and the food everywhere is outstanding.  Traveling down the Mediterranean coast, there are many gorgeous beaches and cool towns to explore.   It is mountainous in areas, and has incredible natural landscapes.  With such an interesting culture, and so many amazing things to see and experience, traveling Turkey is a perfect way to step off the beaten path into this magnificent part of the world.  The deep blue Mediterranean, kebabs, rugs, shisha, mosques will be exotic to your senses, and a daily lifestyle that fits perfect for the Free & Easy approach totravel.  The kind of place you never want to leave.

OK. So back to Greece....

Though costs have gone up in Greece since 2000, it is still a bargain. Delicious local wines cost only dollars a bottle, and 1/2 litre cold beers are less.  Delicious souvlaki gyros can be bought on any street corner for $2 - $3.  And since the supermarkets are stocked with incredible selections of food, drink and snacks, we also travel cheaply by being smart travelers!  We are finding ways to help you travel Greece on the cheap, but still providing the goods!

But can they party?

Another highlight of Greece and Turkey is the nightlife!  The sun doesn’t set until around 9pm, so things start slowly, but the parties in many spots can go all night.  More than that are simply the settings you find yourself in while enjoying a night out . From partying in the characteristic white painted Greek villages to crazy pool parties to chillin at the beach to sipping cocktails on our own sailing boat along the coast in Turkey.

The reasons why anyone will love Greece & Turkey stretch far beyond the explanation we’ve tried to give here, so we hope you will join us in 2012 to find out for yourself!  Read our ‘Summary of the Trip’ for more of an explanation on the locations we’ll be traveling to.
