The main temple of Angkor Wat - photo by Chad Smith

From Laos we will be heading to Cambodia to explore the ruins of 9th - 12th century jungle empire of Khmer featuring one of the great wonders of the world - Angkor Wat. This place will make you feel like Indiana Jones or Lara Croft (Tomb Raider was actually filmed there). You can spend days exploring the ancient city and stone temples- some of which are overgrown with magnificent trees whose roots wrap around the buildings in seemingly impossible ways. You can literally walk in and all around these ancient relics without impediment.  This freedom to roam is key to the unforgettable experience that is Angkor Wat.

We will stay in the nearby town of Siem Reap which will give you the chance to witness the fascinating culture of Cambodia.  The recent history of this country is heart-breaking but it is encouraging to see the determination and pride with which they are picking up the pieces and rebuilding.  Trust us - nobody ever leaves this country without it having a deep impact on the way they see the world.  It is truly astounding.

Our accomodations will be right near the backpacker area where there are all sorts of shops, restaurants and pubs.  The nightlife is really good here...but don't stay up too late or you'll miss out on Angkor Wat!
