We will travel by train to arrive at Java’s pleasant, cultural capital - Yogyakarta. The Hindu and Buddhist temples in the area are some of the oldest in S.E. Asia, and include the colossal Borobudur which dates back to the 9th century A.D. Borobudur is of similar style to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, and is a massive yet intricate temple set in a beautiful natural setting. It is no surprise why Borobudur is a main attraction in the region - as well as throughout South East Asia.
Prambanan Temples were built about 50 years after Brobrudur to commemorate the return of the Hindu dynasty, and are equally stunning stone temples straight out of Indiana Jones or Tomb Raider. We will spend a few days in Yogyakarta to give people the opportunity to take in the temples, the cultural performances like "Wayang Kulit" (traditional leather shadow puppet show),and just to wander throughout the many places of interest.
North of Yogyakarta there are also some amazing natural attractions that can be visited - Dieng Plateau is a huge volcanically active plateu 2093 m above sea leavel. It contains some of the oldest Hidu temples in Java but the main reson to come visit is the beautiful terraced mountainside landscapes, Mineral lakes and steaming/ bubbling lands.
