~~~~THE ADVENTURE~~~~
Indonesia is known for its world
class surfing, with some of worlds best breaks that surfers from around
the world dream of riding. The scuba diving is phenomenal; 25% of the
world’s coral reefs lie in Indonesia and you can find 3,500 of the
4,500 fish species in the world here. No wonder Jacque Cousteau loved
it so much! And with the worlds biggest underwater biodiversity and the
2nd largest global diversity, you will be exploring places full of some
of the worlds great natural wonders. Heck, if you spent only one day on
each of the islands of Indonesia, it would take you 48 years to
accomplish. Now Free and Easy is going to give you a 20 day head start
to accomplishing that feat. Indonesia offers us unlimited possiblities
to creating an epic odyssey and we at Free and Easy look forward to
showing you just how amazing Indonesia can be.
~~~~THE PEOPLE~~~~
What
about the people you ask? Well Indonesia is one the most mulitcultured
nations in the world, with 316 ethnic groups that speak 670 dialects
and the national motto translates to “Unity through Diversity”. Every
person you meet is so keen to meet you and know your story that you
feel like you’ve always lived there. Its a country where the first
thing people want and give is always a smile and sometimes a chance to
practise their English. Indonesian people love to talk, and will always
be excited to share in their thoughts about anything. From island to
island the landscape is dotted with temples, mosques and churches, with
sunsets often seranaded with the calls of the mulahs. Indonesian beauty
lies not just in its natural beauty but its people too. As with all
Free and Easy adventures, we encourage everyone on our trips to get
involved and to interact as much as possible with the local people. But
we will also be asking for cultural sensitivity as many customs and
behaviours in our country are seen with a different light in Indonesia.
But that is the exciting part of traveling, the opportunity to immerse
yourself in the local ways.
~~~~THE EXPERIENCES~~~~
What
is there to do when we are in Indonesia? How about trekking, volcano
climbing, surfing, diving, snorkeling, animal seeing and of course,
just plain old relaxing. With swells rolling in from as far a way as
Antarctica, Indonesia is home to some of the most smooth and well known
surf breaks in the world. From Bali to Sumatra there holds so many
surfing opportunities in Indonesia that it is one of the main meccas of
the sport. Also there is great surf infrastructure for getting boards
and lessons. Not only is there great fun to be had on top of the waves,
there are endless places to explore below the surface as well. With the
world’s largest underwater biodiversity there is ample opportunity to
see some of the great beauty that the world’s seas have to offer. From
dolphins to sharks, from whale sharks to Manta Rays and turtles,
Indonesian underwater life is anything but boring and everything is
untouched.
And for those land lovers there are many
opportunities to climb some of the 400 volcanos that are in Indonesia
(even some of the active ones). From the top of the amazing peaks, you
get a birds eye view of the surrounding landscape and a true sense of
wonder at how beautiful Indonesia really is. Though Indonesia is the
fourth largest populated nation in the world, there are more than just
people who call Indonesia home. Indonesia is one of the few countries
where you can be up close and personal with both Organutans and Komodo
Dragons, as well there are countless monkeys, birds and reptiles to see
in one of the world most biodiverse countries. And with any great Free
& Easy experience, there will be plenty of time to hang up the
hammock and watch the sun sink down over the beautiful spots we have
chosen to call home along the way.
~~~~~ABOUT INDONESIA~~~~
South East Asia is a part of
the world that is full of so many amazing and wonderous things and if
one country could boast to have the most it would be Indonesia.
Indonesia is the largest of all the countries in South East Asia in
both land mass and population, in fact it is the fourth most populated
nation in the world and its total size of 5 million square kms is one
million larger than the United States. It straddles the equator, is the
southern most point of asia and has the longest coast line in the
world. It is the only Southeast Asian country to touch both the Indian
and Pacific ocean and has so many islands (17,000!) that not all them
have been named. It is the last country with still unexplored
territories and it is this beautiful untouched country that you get to
explore with Free and Easy. You will get to see some of the most
incredible sites on this earth; from the dinosauric Komodo dragons to
the moonscape volcanic craters (around 400 of them), to incredible
beaches (no one knows how many), to friendly locals. If you could ask
what Indonesia has for you our response would be everything.
